Final 2 years in Ghim Moh

This issue has been on my mind for quite a while, so when i receive the letter a couple of days ago, and since i got to knock off rather early today, I went to extend my rental tenancy of my 2 room flat this afternoon. And as expected, it wasn't that simple and straightforward anymore since they decided to tighten up on the criteria.

Let me quote the letter, "Rental housing is heavily subsidized by the government. They are meant for the poor and needy households who cannot afford to buy HDB flats and do not have other housing options. If your monthly household income exceeds $1500, and you are able to buy a HDB flat, your tenancy will not be renewed. However, HDB may grant you a final two year term tenancy if you need time to purchase a HDB flat. If you cannot afford/unable to buy a flat, you are required to pay the rent which will be based on your household income."

But I somehow managed to convince the staff to extend by stating that I am not eligible to buy a flat because I am single and still 11 years away from the age of 35, and still climbing up the society ladder from the lower income group to the lower middle income group. Even after that, the staff was still unsure but after going through the archives - they have records of my parents' divorce, my late mother's appeal to move home to be close my sister back due to her illness then, etc, she finally gave the go ahead for the extension after knowing my situation. But the rent will be increased to 250 dollars per month.

I know this is probably the final 2 years that I will reside in Ghim Moh. It's already quite difficult to extend this time round, it's going to be mission impossible 2 years later. So I better start making some long term plan.

Hahaha I think I need to find a wife within this 2 years and get a flat, or if i am still single, quit my job when the next extension is due. Anyway I am not kidding. It's part of my plan to go when the time is right since this is not going to be my life long job. My bond will be gone by then, but life is unpredictable, so who knows.
