Grassroots work

I attended the YEC Workplan Day that was held in NACLI. Basically it consists of team building/bonding games in the morning, before a discussion of the community projects the YEC would be working on this year in the afternoon.

The morning was physically demanding and challenging, the whole committee got to navigate past obstacles with casualty while balancing on log, using wooden pranks.

The start was slow but soon everyone warm up to the task, and execute the mission as a team.

After 45 mins, the whole committee overcame the six obstacles and reach the safe zone.

The chairperson sharing the vision before the committee proceed to discuss on the projects.

Well there are many events proposed through the discussions but we can only focus on certain ones so unfortunately some of the ones I supported more is dropped along the way. But haha nonetheless it is fine, there are other areas that I can contribute.

Due to my family background, I am very interested in helping the sick and needy. Hmmm but that didn't quite materialize. The focus was on kids and there are already many volunteers on the Grant a Wish project. I decided to support the next best thing, recruitment of local youth residents and also the sports interests group which was evolved from my suggestion of the possibility of set up of a local resident running club.

After the end of the workplan, went back home to take a shower and then decide to go to the community club to see see look look what I can help in a free movie event held for the community, the Tale of Desperaux.

Basically didn't help that much since I reached there just on time for the start. Only help a bit by arranging the chairs. Managed to talk to the adviser for a short while before he takes his leave. It feels really special when he welcomed you on board personally.

Haha as usual, we have queues for free popcorns. And kids being kids, they cannot sit still for long. More over, there are so many kids present, they start to play around, run around, etc. Haha it can be quite disturbing when you see these kids play. Some play real hard. They really fight as in fight, push as in really push, in fact one kid was being pushed and fall after knocking into the back of my knee. But then haha he climbed up and carry on to push and fight with his friend. But what can a community leader do when the parents are not intervening? Haha maybe I am just being abit sensitive here, I am just worried that the kids might get hurt. Maybe it is part of growing up? Maybe I grew up behaving the same just as the kids that I saw?

Haha but well the event went well. A free event for the under served community is always good.
