This extended break is good for me. Not only recharging my battery, also providing me with a good chance to interact and know my neighbours better. In the past, when i work, i usually left home very early at around 6am, and only come back at 7.30pm. If i went to meet my sgrunners friends, or my SP Track juniors, i will reach home like 10 plus, 11pm. Then my weekend is only typically spend on resting, or out visiting my dad and mother, or go out with friends and so my interaction with my neighbours is very little before this surgery and this break. Well I just heard about a true story, and i would like to record this down so i can remember, and hopefully teach some of you a bit of harsh reality.
My estate, Ghim Moh consists of 3 blocks of 2 rooms rental flats. Which means that there are quite a fair bit of low income household. A couple of months ago, i saw this red piece of paper stick outside my lift, which symbolise a death on my level. True enough, there was a wake downstairs. But i didn't know who that is becoz i just cant recognise him. As i dunno who is that, well so i never pay respects and avoid the wake by taking the other lift. Hmmm not nice mah to walk across like that.
Only today while interacting with a friendly uncle staying on the 4th level then i know who is the man. There was this man who is staying on my level. 3 or 4 units away from me. Quite a strange man, about 30 plus years old, everytime walk by my unit, will kinda stare at me and see what i am up to. Well since i mostly playing computer games and facing my com nowadays. Very cute de lah. He doesn't seems to be working since he like very free in the day de. Dunno why lah.
So what happened was his father who is very healthy had a fall back home. But this odd man, is so poor, that he cannot afford to call ambulance or seek medical help for his father. So instead of looking for immediate medical help, he went to look for his sister. By the time his sister come with the doctor who does his practice nearby, his father already passed away due to the delay. When i heard of this, dunno how to describe.
And this 4th floor uncle that i spoke to which i think is almost 50plus, luckily he got 2 sons supporting him. It's not he dun want to work. But he cannot read. And he have a heart bypass done a couple of years ago which means that he can do light duties. Where to find some work that is light and no need to read and pay enough to survive in this society?
"Leave no one behind" is the PM's msg. Earlier said than done. From what i have seen and heard so far, nah i think it's going to be quite hard.
Hearing their stories, makes me wonder if my life is that hard. I got a job, though not doing well becoz i am injured, but at least i still got a job for the next few years or so. Though there is the heavy burden of supporting my sick mother, but well i think i am still doing quite fine really, as compared to them.
So my lesson to all is treasure whatever u have in your better days and do what u can to help the needy, old age, sick pp by giving a bit back to society. Maybe a small monthly contribution to some charitable organisations. Though i am not really doing real good, i got this monthly contribution to community chest. Give and take very important.
That's all for now.
