After seeing my electricity meter for the past few days, i concluded that one thing - My meter is not spoilt. I am using that much power back before i started to save electricity, i.e 12kwh per day - about 360kwh per month.
Firstly there are a few items that is on 24 hrs without fail - The fridge. The water boiler - i leave this on becoz i love to drink hot drinks every now and then. The air pump, the filtration system. & the water heater for my oscar fish. And last but no least, my internet modem - i have a bad experience regarding this. Remember the cable setup box which blew up a few days ago, i need not pay becoz it is leased to me. But the cable modem is different as i own it. It blow up during power surge = u got to buy a new one. I dun think i need to specify any more right. Ya I blew up one before. Hahaha. So basically these 6 items are on for 24 hrs.
The rest - laptop, television, fan, lights, radio, etc are variables in my experiment. Now my laptop is run on battery, power at the same charging battery, then battery, then power, etc. I did it in the afternoon from about 1200hrs to 1800hrs, just laptop plus the basic 6 items. My power usage for the six hours is about 2kwh. Which means in the past sometimes i let the laptop run for 24 hrs a day = power usage for these 7 items alone easily will hit 8kwh for a day.
And not forgetting these few days i am saving electricity by seeing very little tv, less fan - open windows instead, no light - depend on my corridor light. And a reduction of 3 filtration systems, 1 air pump. (thanks to my dead fishes. opps). If my television, cable set up, fan, lights are all on at night, i am quite sure that yes i am more than able to hit 12kwh per day. (which burns a huge hole in the pocket).
Now i think this saving electricity drive will be on for the long run, in a bid to balance my cost of living and well maybe save the environment. I am quite impressed by what little acts of saving electricity adds to. At this rate that i am going (6kwh-7kwh per day), I am cutting almost 42% to 50% of my monthly power usage. Which translates to maybe about 30- 40 dollars in saving per month, which is quite good for me (it might be able to balance out quite a bit of the increase in rental for the flat). Anyway, it might be even less when i go back to work (minus the afternoon usage of laptop). So yeah i am coping well i guess.
Just live a simplier life. Which isn't that bad afterall. Quieter. Peaceful.
